Dear Friend and Reader: A warm welcome to the blog of Leslie Powell Ahmadi, the author of a newly released book called The Road Between Hearts: A Memoir of a Black American Woman Discovering Iran (available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other platforms). AN INVITATION TO A PODCAST CONVERSATION! (Below) Whether you are nine years old or ninety, I bet you know what I’m talking about when I mention a popular classroom activity round the globe known (in English-speaking circles) as “Show and Tell.” That’s when members of a class are asked to bring in an item of their choice and talk about it, one person at a time, before the group. Perhaps you’ve participated in it yourself?
In my experience, opportunities to do “show and tell” are much more common for children than they are for adults. But recently I had the good fortune of crossing paths with Ms. Martie McNabb, host of the popular “show and tell” (aka, “share and tales”) podcast: “The Things that Matter.” * By the end of our conversation, Martie had arranged to interview me on her podcast about a show and tell item precious to me! So, we recorded the interview! (Thank you, Martie!) The item I talked about is attached to a memory—one from Iran I’ll never forget. And now, by sharing that “Show & Tales” episode from Martie’s podcast, I feel happy bringing that memory to you (in the link further down)! By way of introduction, this is what Martie had to say about it: In this heartfelt episode of “Things That Matter,” Martie McNabb welcomes memoirist Leslie Powell Ahmadi to share the deeply personal story behind two wedding pendants gifted by her Iranian in laws. Their conversation explores intercultural marriage, faith, family legacy, acceptance, and the power of storytelling to bridge differences. Leslie also discusses her memoir, “The Road Between Hearts,” and how meaningful objects preserve the stories that connect generations. This inspiring episode offers listeners a moving reminder that our most treasured possessions are valuable because of the stories they carry, not the materials they're made from. ---------------------- Podcast Title: “When Love Crosses Cultures: Two Pendants That Changed Everything,” with Leslie Powell Ahmadi https: www.showandtales.com/ttm-leslie-powell-ahmadi Published Date: Thursday, July 9 IG/FB Video Reel: Tuesday, July 14, 2026 *If you're not already subscribed to “The Things That Matter” Podcast, I highly recommend checking it here: WWW.SHOWANDTALES.COM It's a great resource for those looking for a unique way to build deeper connections. AuthorDr. Leslie Ahmadi discovered her intercultural calling in her parents’ home at age four--where between the jazz, the spirituals, and the rock ‘n roll music, she heard folk songs in languages from around the world.
